Fall Centerpiece

I though I would post a picture if what I ended up doing with all the corn I picked up in the field after it was harvested.

I had the small bowls that I purchased at IKEA. I also had the candles. I bought the small pumpkin and squashes at the grocery store. The glass apothecary is from Target. I'm so glad I bought that, I have a feeling it will show up in lots of centerpieces for different seasons.

Thanks to my friends, Carol and Joyce, for the inspiration!

Daily Photo Journal -- May 28

I know, I know. I didn't post a picture yesterday in my quest to post a picture every day in the month of May. Sorry. I went to a quilt shop in a tiny, tiny town about 20 miles away and on the way home I realized I should have taken a picture. Phooey!

Anyway...

This afternoon my hubby and I worked on some things in the basement. I know we moved almost a year ago, but we each had one room that still had a lot of stuff that needed to be sorted through. Hubby worked on his shop and I worked on my sewing room.

I have a chest of drawers that my parents gave to us when we got married. They bought it over 50 years ago to fit in a spot in their house trailer. I used it growing up. After we got some of our own bedroom furniture it became a place to stuff my sewing things. The other day I was looking for some interfacing and realized that I really needed to clean that thing out. I swear I have been shoving things in those drawers for 20-plus years and don't know if I have ever purged it.

Here's a shot of some of the open drawers:
This one is causing me the most fits:

First waste basket full:
(Any comments about the Panda Bear Waste Basket can be directed to my hubby. I hold no responsibility for it. It's a left over relic of his childhood.)
(My niece was afraid of it when she was tiny.)

Now we are pooped from sorting and thinking and wondering what-in-the-world some of the things we came across were and are going to pick-up some supper from the grocery store deli and watch a movie. Sounds like a great Saturday night to me!

Oh, and neither of us finished our jobs. I see another exciting Saturday afternoon ahead! :)

Daily Photo Journal -- May 10

Tonight the hubby and I went shopping for some new chairs for the living room.

We narrowed the fabric choices down to these: (The smaller piece is a piece of leather for an ottoman.)

Decisions. Decisions. Sigh.

House Pictures -- 4

These are the last of the house pictures. This post is pictures of the basement rooms. (Except for my sewing room and my hubby's shop. Those rooms aren't finished yet.)

Our exercise room.

The Guest Bath in the basement.

The Guest Bedroom.

Family Room. I really like the windows and the light that comes from them. The room feels very cozy to me. We bought the piece under the TV in Singapore. I really love it. The long skinny thing in the wall? A fishing basket from Indonesia.
The roll top desk is from Malaysia.

This bookshelf is full of mostly children's books. We loved reading to our kids when they were little and there were just too many books we couldn't part with.

And there you have it. This now concludes the photo tour of our new house.

House Pictures -- 3

**Before we get on with the next round of pictures...Our daughter-in-law was released from the hospital Friday morning! The doctor is unsure what caused her severe vomiting. At first they thought it was sepsis (a potentially serious blood infection), but they now wonder if she had a severe case of food poisoning. What ever it was, we are so thankful for her healing.**

Our Master Bedroom.

The Master Bath. Oh how I love that tub!

I discovered Red Letter Words through another blog that's called Nesting Place (which is a fun design blog). When I was exploring the Red Letter Words website and saw this verse, I knew it would be great in our bedroom. I love to read this verse right before I turn off the light at night and when I wake up in the morning.

House Pictures -- 2

Time for some more photos of our new house. Here's a shot from the Dining Room into the Kitchen. Notice the wonderful Cabinet (under the calendar) that adds a little more class than the mixer box did...

The sign above the window over the sink says: Rejoice in His Salvation. Love it. Through the french doors is the Four Season Porch. We hang out there a lot. I love all the light/sunshine. (Well when there is sun the in winter in the Upper Midwest.)

A view from the Four Season Porch. The doorway on the left leads to the Laundry/Mudroom.

We really like having this space for laundry and for coming in from the garage and taking off our shoes and hanging up the coats. Oh, and can I say I LOVE our new washer and dryer? After going the last 6 weeks in our old house without a working washing machine, to have these is such a blessing

House Pictures -- 1

I know, I know, I've been saying I'm going to post pictures of our new house. I think trying to post all of them at once seemed a little overwhelming. So I think I will post a room (or two) at a time. How does that sound?

Let's start with move in day last June...

Here's the front porch after Hubby painted the front door and the porch.
Picture it all covered in snow. Ugh.
Yeah, like that.

Here's a view from the front door:

Another shot of the Entry Way area:
I just love the columns looking into the Kitchen and Dining Room. And the word "Welcome" over the archway is a nice touch put there by the previous owners.

The Living Room:
Please note that there are actual window treatments, otherwise known as curtains, on the windows! (We lived in our previous home for nine years and I only had window treatments in two rooms.)

A view from the Living Room towards the Entryway. The front door is on the right.

The sofa table right inside the front door.

Closer views of the bookcases in the Living Room. (We bought the bookcases in Malaysia.)

October Photo Journal -- Day 18

This weekend we finally found something we've been looking for for 3 1/2 months. A small cabinet to fit a small space to replace this awesome looking mixer box:

While I love my mixer, the box just wasn't quite doing it.

So after looking, and looking, and looking with a little Internet browsing thrown in, we found a cabinet that would fit in that spot and would hold the telephone and quite likely, lots of other junk.

Some assembly required.

But my awesome hubby persevered and now we have this:

Now to choose what stuff to fill it up with... I'm sure that won't take long.

October Photo Journal -- Day 9

Today was a busy day of cleaning. The hubby painted the decking of the front porch. (I'll post a picture of the finished product after the posts get painted.)

I am really happy that the living room is finally done! It's been full of all the decorating stuff for so long. The decorating is mostly finished, so it's all been cleared out.

Here's a picture of the living room. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Now we just need some company to sit in it and visit.
