That Big Project

Last week I wrote about a big project I was working on.(Remember....the one where I ran out of thread and Hubby ended up driving me 120 miles round trip to buy some more?)

I have shared that my niece had twin girls the end of November. About a month before the babies were born, I got a brain storm to make them some quilts. I spent a morning looking for ideas for a quick, but cute pattern. I found one that I had pinned on Pinterest  It's called Around the Block. Basically it's a giant Log Cabin block. It was pretty simple to put together. It probably took me longer to cut out each piece (because each one is a different size) than to sew the whole thing together.

I shopped for the fabric when we stopped at the Missouri Star Quilt Company before Thanksgiving. I had asked my niece about the colors in the babies' nursery. My goal with the fabric was to have the same fabrics in both quilts, but arrange them differently and do the backing in different fabrics. The girls are twins, but not identical.

I borrowed this photo from my sister's Facebook page. :)

I learned from my niece that one of the girls is already showing to be a bit more feisty that the other one, so for that quilt I chose some monkey fabric for the backing.

And of course, no quilt is complete without the label:::

I prayed for those sweeties to know the love of Jesus as I made the quilts. I hope they get a lot of good snuggle time with these!

Month of Thankfulness - Day 29

Today has been a day to be thankful for technology. My niece, who lives in North Carolina, gave birth to twin girls today and my phone has been exploding with text messages and pictures. So fun to be able to see them and my niece right away!

My niece may not like that I posted this picture, but I think she looks fantastic! Last I heard everyone is doing fine. The babies were born at 36 weeks and don't need to be on oxygen and are in the regular nursery. Those tiny girls have two big sisters who were excited to meet them today.

I am thankful for...
...the ability for pictures to be sent instantaneously
...two healthy grand-nieces (or is it great-nieces?)
...a happy mama

Baby Blankets

Over the weekend I worked on a few more baby blankets. I had bought some more flannel to go with some that I had on hand. I am really happy with how they turned out. So soft and pretty! (The purple one on the bottom is the first one I made a few weeks ago.) (Go to this YouTube link to watch a tutorial of how to make these.)

One thing I've like about these, aside from the magic of the border, is being able to choose a decorative stitch for the top-stitching. I think you are able to see on this close-up some of the stitching I used. I even bought some variegated thread (with pink, yellow, green, blue, and purple) to use on these.

Now I just need some babies to wrap up in a cozy blanket. That pink one is so incredibly soft!

When I Don't Plan Ahead

I am going to a baby shower tonight for this sweet angel girl.

I just had to take a picture of the gift bag.
It was the only gift bag we had that was big enough.  But please notice the green polka-dot and purple tissue paper. That's kinda girly, isn't it?

Gotta eat supper and then head to the baby shower. Just had to share. :)
